Homeowner Tips

Remember seeing how much your clients loved their home when they first moved in? Help them get that loving feeling back! Over the years, as the paint dulls a bit, so can one’s love and appreciation for their home.

• Rearrange the furniture. You don’t even have to buy new furniture to create a new feeling in a room. Added changes such changing around accessories, pillows, curtains and throw rugs help to make the change more impactful.

• Cultivate your garden. Whether you build a new garden or just add some potted flowers to your landscape, the effect is everlasting. Topiaries, shrubs and trees can make a large impact with minimal maintenance.

• Let it go. De-cluttering your home is one of the best ways to relieve stress, make storage space and let go. Start with one closet and work your way throughout the home, one area at a time. Donate your items to a cause that matters to you, it will be an added reward.

• Clean with a purpose. Are your baseboards in need of a good scrubbing? Have you cleaned behind your washer/dryer lately? Underneath and behind your refrigerator almost always needs a good scrubbing. Spruce up your front door/entryway by cleaning windows, treating the wood, power washing surfaces, etc.

• Go around the inside and outside of your home with a fine tooth comb and list what needs attention. Prioritize needs and make a plan to address what needs the most care. This will not only give you an overall assessment of needs, but will remind you of what makes your home unique and special.

• Show some love with a little cleaning and small upgrades. Dusting, mopping and vacuuming are chores, but they do dress up your home visually. Could your kitchen cupboards use with new hardware, maybe a new backsplash? Does your bathroom need fresh towel holders or a new mirror? Could your office use some organizing bins? When was the last time you put some different throw pillows on the master bed? Tackle one room at a time and give it a mini makeover. You may find yourself wanting to spend more time there once you do.

Falling back in love with a home for your clients doesn’t require a major investment of time or money, only an investment of renewed love. And in addition to gaining more enjoyment from your home by constantly adding little touches and keeping it in good repair, it can help you maintain your property values.
